Dear
JSHS teacher and parent:
The
Kent Rossier Memorial Student Research Foundation is an organization dedicated
to promoting student research in the sciences and social sciences. The foundation
is dedicated to continuing the work of Kent Rossier, founder and former Director
of the European JSHS. The foundation wishes to announce that it is sponsoring
a small number of student research grants of from twenty five to one hundred
dollars each to support the JSHS research needs of selected Senior Division
JSHS-Europe students. These grants will be awarded by the Trustees based on
the proposal's elaboration of the following:
-
The nature and purpose of the student's research must be clearly stated
in a way that elicits
the interest of other students.
-
The research plan must be appropriate to the research problem.
-
The support costs must be enumerated. Since grant funds will primarily go
toward supplies and equipment, specific items to be purchased should be
listed. These items should, generally, not be those likely to be found in
school stocks. Special note is given to students who design and build their
own research equipment.
-
The mentor/teacher sponsoring the student must add a confidential statement
endorsing the student. This endorsement must refer specifically to the reasons
why the mentor has confidence that the student has the time, commitment,
and capability to develop the skills needed to complete the research. This
statement may also include economic need or other special considerations.
The
following will apply to the awarding of these grants:
- No
student may apply for more than one research grant,
-
No applying student will have passed his/her 19th birthday or be younger
than 14 (ie. must have passed his/her 14th birthday) on November 1 of the
current school year.
- The
grant is contingent upon the completion of the student's research.
That is, the student must submit an "acceptable" Senior Division
research paper to the JSHS utilizing this equipment. The title and nature
of the research may, however, be modified from that of the original proposal
upon approval of the mentor.
-
Grants will be awarded in a variety of different research areas in order
to encourage diversity in research topics.
- Students
who wish to apply for a grant should fill out the attached application and
forward their application via email to their JSHS teacher/mentor. The mentor must include a confidential statement
and then email the application to
the JSHS-EuropeDirector no later
than February 1.
