JSHS Deadlines and Procedures 2007/2008

BY OCTOBER 12, 2007 Students REGISTER and SUBMIT INITIAL RESEARCH QUESTION Form on the E-JSHS Obline Submission Site: http://iweb.aaot-mzk.eu.ds.dodea.edu/JSHS/ This is Initial Research Question form for pre-planning.

BY OCTOBER 30-NOVEMBER 2, 2007 NOT LATER THAN 1200 Students SUBMIT a TENTATIVE ABSTRACT Form on the E-JSHS Obline Submission Site: http://iweb.aaot-mzk.eu.ds.dodea.edu/JSHS/ This Tentative Abstract Form that can be used for pre-planning. Please fill in all of the yellow highlighted areas on the form before going to the submission site.

BY JANUARY 18, 2007 Students SUBMIT their INITIAL RESEARCH PAPER to the E-JSHS Obline Submission Site: http://iweb.aaot-mzk.eu.ds.dodea.edu/JSHS/ The document below details the process of the development of a JSHS presentation. It also gives a sample paper with detailed explanations of each part of the paper. FEBRUARY 4, 2008 Students will receive feedback via the E-JSHS Obline Submission Site: http://iweb.aaot-mzk.eu.ds.dodea.edu/JSHS/ that indicates their level of participation (oral or poster) or whether they are not invited to attend the symposium. Guidelines for the E-JSHS will then be distributed to students based upon their level of attendance.

FEBRUARY 14, 2008 Students must upload their FINAL PAPER (ORAL presentors) and/or ABSTRACT (Poster presenters) via the E-JSHS Online Submission Site in the Final Paper link: http://iweb.aaot-mzk.eu.ds.dodea.edu/JSHS/.

FORMAT FOR PRESENTATIONS: ORAL: The format and rules for Senior and Junior ORAL presentations are outlined in this document: Presentation Formats for Senior and Junior Oral Presentations. Please note that the European JSHS includes Oral Presentations for Juniors while the National does not. We allow 7-8th grade participation as a measure to prepare our junior students for the senior JSHS competition. POSTER: The rules and judging form are in this document: Poster Guidelines and Judging.

FEBRUARY 14, 2008 Students submit the following forms to their JSHS Teacher/Mentor/Sponsor: STUDENT INFORMATION FORM, MEDICAL RELEASE FORM and BEHAVIOR EXPECTATION Form. The teacher/mentor is required to bring the forms to the E-JSHS.

FEBRUARY 25-28 2008 The European Junior Science and Humanities Symposium will be held at Best Western Riedstern, Reidstadt, Germany. The symposium begins with registration from 1230 to 1630 on February 25, 2008. The Opening Ceremony begins at 1700. The Closing Awards Program ends at 1130 on February 28th.

REGISTRATION FEES: This year, a $100.00 registration fee is required for each student participant. The fee helps cover some activities that the EJSHS sponsors do not cover (ex. field trips, over and above food and lodging, E-JSHS tee shirt, etc). JSHS funds can only be used for students. Registration fee is due when students check in the JSHS registration area. The fee is $100.00 for students and this must be in cash (US Dollars). There will be multiple students to a room. We may have to assign 3 to a room and 6 to a suite if we have an odd number of genders.

A $400.00 conference fee is required for each teacher participant since teacher costs will not be covered by JSHS. Teacher conference fees will be reimbursed through per diem when you file your travel voucher. Teachers will be 1 to a room.

SCHOLARSHIPS: Scholarships and grants are the highest levels ever, with the maximum prizes up to $20,000 for participants with U.S. citizenship courtesy of the Research Labs of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Air Force. The E-JSHS awards students as follows:

Sr. Oral 3rd – Scholarship/trip to Nationals
Sr. Oral 4th – Trip to Nationals
Sr. Poster 1st –Trip to Nationals
Sr. Poster 2nd - $150.00
Sr. Poster 3rd - $100.00
Sr. Poster 4th - $50.00
Jr. Oral 1st – $150.00
Jr. Oral 2nd - $100.00
Jr. Oral 3rd - $75.00
Jr. Oral 4th - $50.00
Jr. Poster 1st - $150.00
Jr. Poster 2nd - $100.00
Jr. Poster 3rd - $75.00
Jr. Poster 4th -$50.00

DRESS: All Senior and Junior Presenters will be appropriately dressed for their oral or poster presentations. Males must have on a shirt and tie NO jeans, and females a dress or pant suit. Dress for success. Casual dress, clean jeans can be worn all other times.
